Dimitri

A prince haunted by tragedy who seeks to atone for his sins and restore peace.

Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd is a primary protagonist in Fire Emblem: Three Houses (2019) and its spin-off, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes (2022). As the prince of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus and leader of the Blue Lions House at Garreg Mach Monastery, he stands alongside Edelgard von Hresvelg and Claude von Riegan. Accompanied by students like Dedue Molinaro and Felix Hugo Fraldarius, Dimitri initially presents as an honorable, idealistic man who values nobility. However, beneath this persona lies a violent nature rooted in childhood trauma. His narrative arc explores the duality of his character: a kind leader seeking justice versus a ruthless hunter consumed by vengeance following a devastating event.

Lore & Background

Dimitri is the sole survivor of the Tragedy of Duscur, an event that killed his family. Initially, he appears as a benevolent leader, but this mask hides a violent side. During the five-year time skip in the War of Fódlan, his sanity deteriorates significantly. He becomes a vengeful, sadistic individual with little regard for life, hunting those he believes responsible for the Tragedy. In his route within Three Houses and Three Hopes (Azure Moon/Azure Gleam), if supported by Byleth, his sanity is restored as he confronts his trauma. Conversely, if the player joins Edelgard, Dimitri transforms into a main antagonist alongside Rhea, ultimately dying in battle. His transformation reflects the hardships of his specific story route, which director Toshiyuki Kusakihara intended to show through visual changes like an eyepatch.

In Their Own Story

Dimitri's journey begins at Garreg Mach Monastery, where he studies under Byleth alongside Dedue and Felix. Hostilities arise with Those Who Slither in the Dark and the Flame Emperor, revealed to be Edelgard plotting to destroy the Church. Believing she caused the Tragedy of Duscur, Dimitri vows to execute her. During a battle, Byleth is separated from him and enters stasis for five years while Dimitri is branded a traitor for regicide and imprisoned until freed by Dedue. Upon Byleth's return, they find a traumatized Dimitri leading the Blue Lions to reclaim the Monastery. He eventually assists the Alliance in defending against Edelgard. In his route, he defeats Edelgard after failing to compromise. In opposing routes, he serves as an antagonist. The story also highlights his complex relationship with Dedue and support conversations with Bernadetta in Three Hopes.

Reader's Guide

Players can choose Dimitri's route by selecting the Blue Lions House in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. He possesses a Crest that grants powers beyond normal humans. His class progression starts as a Lord, evolving based on player choice. Support conversations reveal his bond with Dedue and Felix, exploring themes of loyalty. In the Azure Moon route (Three Houses) or Azure Gleam (Three Hopes), he becomes the main protagonist where Byleth helps him abandon vengeance. If the player opposes him, he acts as a supporting antagonist. His character development is praised for handling mental trauma, with voice actors Chris Hackney and Ishikawa delivering emotional performances that sometimes required breaks during recording. He is also playable in Fire Emblem Heroes (including a summer version) and the 2025 mobile game Fire Emblem Shadows.
